Applicants seeking admission for a Ph.D / Integrated Ph.D Programme in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science or Neuroscience or Computational Biology in one of the Participating Institutes may appear for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) at one of the Exam Centers.
The Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) (statutory body established through an Act of Parliament) recognizes JEST as a National Eligibility Test (NET) in their office Memo vide OM No.SB/S9/Z-01/2015. Fellows working in SERB programmes and qualified in NET are eligible to get enhanced fellowship.
Participating Institutes have their own eligibility criteria. Applicants who are expected to complete their final examinations by August of each year are also eligible to appear for the JEST exam of that year.
Applicants must pay an application fee and register to appear for the exam.

- “Materials under Extreme Conditions – Enabling Technologies and Applications” (December 26-30, 2016)
It is being organized by the Centre for High Pressure Research, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India under the support of GIAN, MHRD, New Delhi.
The scope of the Workshop is to provide a common platform to discuss and understanding the basics of high pressure techniques, recent developments in the field of Pressure effects on various strongly correlated systems at extreme conditions, Synthesis of materials under high pressure, Iron based superconductors, Theoretical developments and predictions, High pressure instrumentation at extreme conditions on transport, magnetic, structural using DAC, synchrotron and neutron diffraction etc. Leading experts from France and India will be invited to give lectures and the expected participants are young research scholars, Post Doctoral fellows and young Faculties from different parts of India and France.
Further, the Workshop will provide good opportunity to have a direct interaction and discussion with the Senior Scientists and academicians working in the core area of strongly correlated systems and high pressure physics. Hence, I would be very much delighted to communicate the information to your young Faculties, Research scholars and students and kindly encourage to participate in the GIAN Programme. Certificate with 02 credit for each course will be provided to the participants.

We are pleased to inform you that PG and Research Department of Physics, National College, Tiruchirappalli is organizing 21st National Seminar on Crystal Growth and Applications (NSCGA-2017) during 6-8 March 2017 in association with Indian Association for Crystal Growth (IACG).
IACG has successfully organized TWENTY Crystal Growth seminars, many of them with International Participation. All major Indian Crystal Growth laboratories and research institutions participate in the National Seminar on Crystal Growth (NSCG). NSCG is held in different cities as annual event. Last year it was organized at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai during 19-21st January 2016. This year it is being organized at National College, Tiruchirappalli.
The 21st NSCGA-2017 will provide a platform for the research community in Crystal Growth and characterizations to meet, discuss and share the latest advances in these fields. Three days of togetherness will develop a strong and healthy support between the experts in the field of Crystal Growth. Many novel and innovative ideas to reform the field of Crystal Growth and its applications and related areas, will be evolved through the discussions and sharing between the distinguished professors and renowned scientists from the different parts of the country. Interaction with the eminent personalities will be a great motivation to the research scholars who participated in the conference. Discussions on student exchange programme with reputed institutions will be initiated.
The scientific deliberations will be in the form of Invited Talks (IT), Oral and Poster presentations. Accepted contributory papers will be presented as posters and a few will be selected for the oral presentation.

Eligibility:
- The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
- The applicant should hold Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering or M.D or M.S degree in any area of medicine.
- The applicant must have obtained Ph.D/M.D/M.S degree from a recognized University, not before two years from the date of application. Those who have submitted their PhD/M.D/M.S thesis and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates, if selected, will be offered lower fellowship amount till they are awarded the eligible degree.
- The upper age limit for the fellowship is 35 years at the time of the submission of application. Age relaxation of 5 (five) years will be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged & Women candidates.
